2012 - #2 - Aghadowey Stockcar Stadium - 28/1/12 |
An out of season meeting perhaps doesn’t give the clearest of indications of how the ORCi classes will support the venue, but it is still good to see the Stock Rods and the Lightning Rods on track and both fielded double figure grids of cars, even if it wasn’t the numbers you’d expect at their normal venues.
The one thing I really don’t like about Aghadowey is that it is around a 115 mile round trip for me, the one thing I really do like is that on miserable wet days, there is a shed which offers a bit of shelter, and with a bit of tweaking of camera settings I figured that I could photo through the fence while staying dry, and it reminded me how much I miss the ends at Ballymena.
In the Stock Rods their was a hat trick of wins for Alastair Bolton, with a great race in heat two between Mickey McFall and Derek McMillan. McMillan was also in the mix for the lead in the opening stages of the final.
In the Lightning Rods there was a mixed day for Richard Stewart as he took the win in the opening heat but ended heat two with the car on it’s side, a heat which was later won by Mervyn Emerson. Stewart went on to take the win in the final after holding off Stephen Emerson in the closing laps, Emerson looked to be lining up a move on the last lap, but the race went red chequered with a lap to go after Tim Hazlett needed crashed out in turn one.
In the Juniors there was a heat win for number 24, followed by a heat and final win for number 6.
In the Open Hot Rods there was a double heat win for Davy Gurney, and I didn’t stay for the final, but I suspect he won that too.
