2012 - #10 - Nuttscorner Oval - 14/4/12
Hard to believe it’s only the middle of April and I’m already notching up my tenth meeting of the year. Looking back at 2011 it was the 8th of May before I’d taken in 10 meetings. With every meeting this season there seems to be more and more work today after it, and as I once again look at a list of things to do on front of me and out the window at what looks like another nice day I’m missing out on, I hope you can forgive me if I perhaps I’m not just as enthused as I have been in recent years to attempt to attend 50 meetings in a single year.

Getting back to the racing, with the lights not working at the Nutts Corner venue, the meeting started early with a 6pm start, in a chain of unrelated and unlikely events, Tony McCoy fell off his horse before the start of the Grand National which held the race up and I didn’t get my dinner put on until it was over, which held me up, the Horse my wife backed won the national and I had to pick the winnings up on the way to the racing, which held me back further, and so, punctual as ever (my doing) the NIOvalTV team was setup just in time to not record heat one down to a technical problem with the camera, which we resolved for the next race.
I too was having issues with my new lens that I was using at Nuttscorner for the first time and infact I was using in good light for the first time, and when the lens is on it, it takes some fantastic shots but it isn’t focusing quickly enough and quite often the cars are through the shot I’m trying for before the camera is taking the shot, it’s quite frustrating, but when it does take the shot at the right time, they are good shots. For the time being I’ll not blame the lens or the camera, but it might just be down to the photographer being a little over ambitious, I’m sure it’ll all come together eventually.
On to the racing, after a cracking meeting on Easter Monday and I think partly to do with the early start, there was a smaller crowd at the racing on Saturday night, the PA system wasn’t working for half the meeting and it all felt a bit like a Friday night meeting at Nuttscorner, and if you haven’t attended a Friday night meeting at Nuttscorner before, they feel a bit like everything is just going through the motions.
The car numbers weren’t bad, but the meeting passed mostly without incident and without a caution in any of the races, but as a result it was over for 8.20pm, which meant there was still probably a good half hour of light that the racing could have continued into had it been needed.
On the track, there was heat wins in the juniors for Edmund Davis who took the opener and was then just pipped to the line in heat two by Ethan Dilly before Bradley McKinstry took the final win.
The Lightning rods seen an opening heat win for David Hearst before Tim Hazlett took the second heat and the final.
Ryan Abernethy took and opening heat and the final in the ProStocks, with Stephen Haugh taking the second heat.
In the 2.0 Hot Rods there was a heat and final double for Bradley Dynes with Adam Hylands taking the win in the other heat.

Approx Car Turnout: 77 cars (Junior Productions 12, Lightning Rods 22, ProStocks 20, 2.0 Hot Rods 23)
