2012 - #23 – Tullyroan Oval – 30/6/12 |
My fourth meeting at Tullyroan on the trot and I must admit it’s perhaps time for a change of scenery before the next meeting there.
We somehow managed to get through the meeting relatively dry, but my good camera broke mid way through the meeting which put bigger dampener on proceedings.
Another early start to trek down to Tullyroan to get there in plenty of time for a Pre-Speedweekend photoshoot. Thanks to Paula, Haley, Denver, Andy, Derek, Wayne, Feargal, David and anyone else I might have missed, we have some interesting material to keep us going over the next few weeks.
Onto the racing, the Open Hot Rods made their track debut and for me they were the surprise package of the night, fourteen cars I counted including some regular faces in the class who’d travelled quite a distance to race, some National Hot Rods having a run out and finally, someone has come out with something different in the class, in the shape of what looked like a rally starlet in the hands of former 1600 Hot Rod world champion Keith McClelland, certainly a refreshing addition to proceedings. On track Simon Kennedy took the opening heat, Jaye Nevin took heat two (while I was trying to figure out why my camera wouldn’t work), and the final went to Ian McReynolds.
Stuart Cochrane produced a heat and final win in the Juniors, with Dan Campbell taking the second heat after Jack Gilpin had been docked for contact on Shane McMillan, a compliment which was returned in the final.
The Hot Rods seemed a little down on numbers, but included Adam Hylands tidied up Saxo and Petie Donnelly’s freshly signwritten 206 and Wayne Woolsey in his recently acquired Danny Fiske Nova. The first heat seen a win for Shane Murray which included a long stoppage for Glenn McDowell after a heavy side on impact with the turn three wall. Philip Beatty took heat two before Vince Campbell took the honours in the final, after it was stopped early when he was judged to have been spun out by Derek Martin.
The Lightning Rods also seemed a bit down on numbers, Ben McKee took heat one with Tim Hazlett the victor in heat two before Jordan Rochford took the final win.
On arriving home and inspecting my camera, it would appear it is likely to need a costly repair or replacement. If you enjoy flicking through the photos I take and plaster the internet with, now would be a great time to sponsor NIF2.
Also on arriving home, my wife had bought me Dirt showdown for the Xbox, so apologies in advance for the shortage of updates in the coming weeks!
Approx Car Turn Out: 64 (11 Junior Productions, 15 Lightning Rods, 14 Open Hot Rods, 24 2.0 Hot Rods)
