Thirtieth meeting of 2012 for me, and it I just picked up from where last week left off, still lacking enthusiasm for the racing, now starting to lack the enthusiasm for photography as well. It could be the extra hours spent travelling to Tullyroan this season, or the more frequent trips to the diesel pump, the extra hours on front of the computer editing videos, or just the mindset that there is far too many meetings here that I’d got into at the start of the season is really starting to take a toll. It’s all starting to feel like much more of a chore than a hobby or leisure time activity.
When you are fed up before you’ve arrived at the racing it’s probably fair to say that you’ll struggle to find too many positives in even the best of meetings, so I’ll keep this fairly brief.
Jonny Gillipsie had a huge roll in the first race I’m made it out onto the infield for, bringing the first Gp 2 race to an early halt. The F2’s had a pretty decent final with a good battle for a few laps between Craig McConnell and Ryan McCrory. The two heat winners, McConnell and Kincaid had both spun early in the final and it made it a bit more interesting to see how they’d progress through the field. Sam McKay eventually took the Norman Cromie memorial final with Conor Hughes second and McConnell had come through to third.
Thomas Dilly blew the opposition away in the Open Hot Rods, taking all three races and lapping the field in heat 1.
Ross Houston took the Saloon final, I wasn’t there in time for the first race, and was wondering around for the second. It was the same scenario with the 1600 Lightning Rods, which I missed all three races for. I did wonder what they added to the meeting when the very similar Gp 2’s were on the bill and have so many cars, but in thinking about it, they added padding and if they hadn’t been on I would have missed Gillispie’s roll in the Gp 2’s.
Next week it’s Speed Weekend time at Ballymena and the Stock Rod World Championship tops the bill. Surely that has to lift the enthusiasm levels? Doesn’t it?
