2012 - #34 - Tullyroan Oval - 2/9/12 |
Another weekend, and another 2 days of racing, and this time back to Tullyroan for the second leg of the National Hot Rod weekend. For a while it seemed like quite a long time since I’d been anywhere but Tullyroan and up until today it seemed like quite a long time since I’d been to Tullyroan.
On the cards today was the National hot Rod Irish Open, the 2 Litre Hot Rod Irish open, sadly lacking any visiting drivers, as well as the Junior Productions and ProStocks.
Starting with the Nationals, Glenn Bell dominated the meeting with a comfortable opening heat win and nearly a half lap gap to the second place man, Gavin Murray, in the final. Visiting driver Jason Kew led home heat two with English points champion Chris Haird in second. It was probably the poorest support National Hot Rod we’ve had in a few years, but as ever you can’t fault those who did make the trip. John Christie was also missing today due to a “non racing” injury sustained last night at Ballymena, and I feel the Nationals will miss him in the coming weeks.
The 2 Litre’s put on quite a show today as they decimated 26 cars down into single figures from the start of practice to the end of the meeting. Shane Murray came out on top in their Irish open after heat wins from Wayne Woolsey and Davy McMenemy.
The juniors seem to be building up numbers again, Dean McCrory was out racing in an ex Derek McMillan car and Conor Boyle made his first appearance of the season racing a tidy Peugeot 206. Dan Campbell took the honours in the Junior final.
With a few weeks break the ProStocks have had a chance to build up numbers as well, Tam Agnew debuted a new Mk 4 Astra, as did Ricky Shaw and Tomas McElmeel. Stuart Agnew won their final.
Approx Car Turn out - 79 cars (25 2 Litre Hot Rods, 14 Junior Productions, 16 National Hot Rods, 24 ProStocks)
