2012 - #36 - Tullyroan Oval - 16/9/12
This for me was one of the meetings I singled as one to really look forward to when I first saw the fixture list at the start of the season. The ProStock championships have become one of the jewels in the crown of local oval racing, ‘matches and dispatches’ has never failed to disappoint, while the F2’s are still the class I most look forward to seeing, throw in the Juniors and the Lightning Rods and it all made for a cracking meeting.

Although I don’t think they didn’t all race there was over 100 cars in the pits, and it’s not too many times a season you can say that. There was no fewer than 40 ProStocks, including quite a few cars and drivers I’d never seen out in the class before and no fewer than eight visiting drivers.
With so many cars on track, the ProStocks threw up some carnage and some great racing. Stefan McClelland took the opening heat before Sam McKinstry took heat two with a last bend hit on long time leader Dave Morrison. McClelland and Ryan Abernethy shared pole for the final, with McKinstry inside row two, who quickly went about dispatching McClelland in the opening lap. Abernethy and McKinstry then exchanged the lead a few times before Abernethy finally went on to take the win and the British Championship.

The National Bangers seen a feature race win for Davy ‘BooBoo’ Patton, with Davey O’Connor winning the allcomers and Paul Compelli winning the Destruction Derby. A selection of Hearses and a few limos made up a 17 car grid.

In the F2’s Kris Fitzpatrick didn’t get beyond practice. Craig McConnell took the win of a lively opening heat with Denver Grattan taking heat two and the final.

In the Lightning Rods there was an opening heat win for Gordy McKee. Heat 2 could have been confused for a DD as cars fell by the wayside and crashed out throughout the race, eventually won by Martin O’Flaherty who went on to take the final.

The Juniors seen a double heat win for Scott Cochrane before Conor Conlon took the final win.

Approx Car turnout: 98 cars (40 ProStocks, 11 F2’s, 17 Lightning Rods, 13 Junior Productions, 17 National Bangers)
