2013 - #7 – Tullyroan Oval – 1/4/13
The third and final meeting of a busy Easter weekend for me and it was a bit of a mixed bag, the highs being that there was a great turnout of cars in every class and the infield has been changed, the low being the temperature and the wind, if there wasn’t a minus chill factor on the wind then it must have been damn close to it.

This was also the first of the clashing meetings, so I was a bit concerned that would have an impact on car and crowd numbers due to Aghadowey being on at the same time….. that worry is now settled, but I’d imagine there wasn’t too many people at Aghadowey.
Starting with the new infield layout, I’m not sure if it’ll be a permanent setup, but I hope it is. If you weren’t there to see it, or the wind was blowing the dust into your eyes and you couldn’t see as far as the infield, then I’ll start by explaining that the marker tyres formerly on the edge of the track have been reduced in number and pushed closer to the centre of the grass, I presume to form a “safe area”, which as a photographer at least means something behind you should get hit before you do, should a stray car head your direction while you’re looking the other way.

As far as the racing goes, Shane McMillan won the Junior Production final after two heat wins from Bradley McKinstry, who capped his weekend by finishing second in the final.

Dane Ferry took the opening heat win in the Lightning Rods with Martin O’Flaherty taking heat two and the final.

Wayne Woolsey dominated in the Hot Rods, taking all three race wins in the Nationals as well as the final in the 2 Litres. Mark Madill and Sean Dynes shared the heat wins in the 2 Litres, where Stephen Emerson made his full race debut in his Saxo, looking quick throughout the day and taking a 7th place in the final. Shane Murray debuted a new, very bright paint scheme.

The ProStocks boasted the biggest class turnout of the weekend with a total of 34 cars in action, with no fewer than 15 white graders at the front of the field in heat 1. Allen Cherry and Robert McIlroy shared the head wins before Stefan McClelland took the honours in the final.

So that is it then, Easter over, 3 meetings in 4 days, the 2013 season proper has begun!

Approx Car Turnout: 98 cars (14 National Hot Rods, 16 Lightning Rods, 34 ProStocks, 11 Junior Productions, 23 2.0 Hot Rods)
