2013 - #10 – Ballymena Raceway – 19/4/13 |
It’s starting to feel more like Stock car season again when Friday night involves playing football to 7 o’clock then rushing up the road to take in what is left of that night’s meeting at Ballymena.
The night didn’t get off to the best of starts for me, I spent that long trying to finish my last piece on Davy McCall’s 10 years of promoting that I was late for football (I know… who’d have thought I’d be late?) and forgot to lift some rather useful tools such as a pen, notepad, spare batteries and a short lens for winners shots.
I missed the first two race and watched the third from the outside while scoffing a burger.
I said when I started NIF2 as a blog I would try and keep it as positive as possible, so in an attempt at positive spin, I’ll just say that for all the cars there was at the meeting, the finals produced some surprising action.
Lucinda Smyth won the Gp 2 final which featured a pile up in the Fisherwick end. Billy Finnegan Jnr won the Speed Stocks, but they’d a few good laps of racing at the end when Curtis Greer did his best to push past Finnegan. Carl Sloan won the Stock Rods which had bunched together in the closing laps, but the most action of all was in the Juniors when I they’d 3 attempts starts which seen 1 car upside down, two stuck up and wall and a pretty hefty hit in the other start, I don’t think they did a complete lap, but reduced to 2 cars they were returned to the pits. Calvin Blake was the only 1300 in attendance.
Approx Car Turn Out: 41 Cars (Gp 2 Lightning Rods – 20, 1300 Stock Cars – 1, Speed Stocks – 5, Stock Rods – 7, Junior Rods – 8)
