2013 - #11 - Tullyroan Oval - 21/4/13 - Shamwreck 2013 |
One of the blue chip meetings of the season, and as ever Shamwreck never fails to disappoint. The pits were packed breaking the 100 car marker and the sun eventually shown.
It would be wrong not to mention the absence of The Bears, who have made themselves at home in recent years and dominated the Shamwreck’s at Nuttscorner Oval. this year due to other commitments they were unable to attend, but we’ll hopefully see them back again in the future. I feel it would be equally wrong to dwell too much on their absence though, as Shamwreck has never just been about The Bears, and it did no harm to see that the event could stand on it’s own two feet this year without them. Members of The Levellers once again made the trip from England, Neil Naismith was once again over from Scotland in one of the cars which was in contention for Best Tin and Bart Versmissen came across from Belgium and went home with the trophy for Best Entertainer.
Race wise in the bangers, Stephen Bolton took the opening heat, Keiran McIvor took heat two and went on the lead home Bolton and Callum Hall in the feature race itself, which I think makes McIvor the first local winner of Shamwreck. The All comers race was won by Davy O’Connor and the Destruction Derby shared between Steven Tyson and Darren Gaffney.
Aside from the Bangers, the Ninja Karts made their second appearance at Tullyroan and seen heat wins for Adam McFall and Stuart Emerson with Jake Woolsey taking the final win in the closing laps.
The ProStocks mustered up another massive grid of cars and put on three fantastic races. Allen Cherry took the opening heat with Tam Agnew winning heat two and Dean Flemming taking the spoils in the final.
In the Lightning Rods there was an opening heat win for Gary Beggs with Martin O’Flaherty taking heat two before Dane Ferry won the final.
The Robins also managed to get double figures in car numbers, with Denver Grattan out in Stephen Bolton’s car, Jamie White, John Stewart and Adam Heatrick also out amongst the field.
Billy McClean took the opening heat win which featured a spectacular roll on the exit of turn two from Ian Bolton. John Stewart won heat two and Ian Bolton took the win in the final.
Approx Car Turnout: 116 Cars (National Bangers - 37, ProStocks - 35, Ninja Karts - 18, Lightning Rods - 16, Reliant Robins - 10)
