2013 - #23 - Ballymena Raceway - 14/6/13
My big local F2 meeting of the season, not falling at an ideal time for me when I could just about see due to an eye infection, given the weather perhaps it wasn't a bad thing I was stuck in the stand, I'd likely not have had the sense to come in out of the rain otherwise and I'd now be telling you why my camera no longer works.

This meeting is really my one opportunity to get a few infield shots of the big names in the sport as well as some of the locals who don't normally venture to Ballymena. On this occasion though some of the big names advertised didn't race at Ballymena and even more local racers where missing from the line up, perhaps 3 days racing is just too much for most, which is understandable.

I'd spent the week reading "Keep turning left" and reminiscing about F2 Irish Opens and Challenge Trophy meetings gone by, how much this used to be the focal point of my season, the big crowds, the big names that you'd only have seen photos of in Short Circuit in the pre-unloaded, pre-internet days, the days of Speak, Batten, Goodman, The Kelly brothers, Dakin and co..... good times! I miss those days!

This years visitors to the showgrounds were Liam Rennie, Carlos Perez, Kevin Bruce, Wullie Draeger, John Broatch, Paul Broatch, Ben Lockwood, Chris Burgoyne, Tom Adcroft and Bobby Griffin, most of which were making their track debut to the best of my knowledge.

Carlos Perez ran into transporter problems on the way up the road and the promotion kindly shuffled the opening races around to give him time to get the car on track. Perez then set about winning both heats.
In the final Graham Fegan looked the most alert on one of the restarts and got through to second behind Griffin who he soon moved past, once out front Fegan looked comfortable and went on to take the win with Chris Burgoyne second and Gavin Fegan third.
Chris Kincaid took the Grand National win after the lead pair of Carlos Perez and Sam McKay came together on the exit of the last bend.

In the other classes #11 took both heats in the Stock Rods before Micky McFall won the final. Darrell Hann took a heat and final double in the Gp 2 Lightning Rods with #24 winning the other heat and Ricky Shaw taking the Grand National win.

Car Turnout - 52 cars(BriSCA F2 - 23, Gp 2 Lightning Rods - 22, Stock Rods - 7)
