NIF2 Photos in the Press |
Earlier in the week, I was flicking through facebook and seen the new profile photo for Wheelspin magazine, some of you may have seen it, it has Keith Martin on it. The profile pic is the cover shot of the July issue of the magazine, to some people reading this it'll be special because it has an NI car on it, but to me this one is extra special, because it's my photo. Nearly 12 years on from I first sent off my first contribution to unloaded 7.3, and finally I've managed a cover shot of one of Oval Racing's top magazines.
I know there is photographers will think nothing of that, they'll have had loads of cover shots, and I also know from the design work I do that it's not some sort of accolade that I took the best photo last month, and it's not like they are set on front of a judging panel, mine just happened to fit the bill, but I still feel a sense of achievement from it, at a time when I'm looking at what I've done in the sport and wondering what else I can achieve without a wheel in my hands.
The cover shot has got me into reflecting on the various times my shots have been used in the media, the landmarks as I see them of how far I've come. I thought I'd get some of them together and post them.

The cover of the new issue of wheelspin, out this weekend |
This was my first published shot, taken in August 2001 with a digital camera I'd borrowed from my boss and published in Virgin Racers in unloaded 7.3 |
This was the first shot that made the big media, Motoring News/Motorsport News. |
This probably reaches a greater audience than wheelspin, front page of the Tyrone Courier in the build up to the Speedweekend last year |
This wasn't my first shot in Carsport, but probably the biggest, earlier this year |
As audience goes, it probably doesn't come much bigger than The Sun, this was around Easter this year |
One of the many programmes my shots have been in, this one the National Hot Rod European at Lochgelly |
