2013 - #31 - Tullyroan Oval - 20/7/13 |
This was one of those damned if you do and damned if you don’t meetings, I personally could have done without it because it creates another day of work on the back of it and I could do with that time to clear up the programme for the speedweekend, on the other hand it’s a long run from the end of June to the end of July to not have any racing on.
The great weather that we’ve been having held out for another night and I managed the rare occurrence of completing an NI meeting in shorts and at-shirt, such a rare occurrence, I can’t recall ever having done it before, possibly the 2005 Speedweekend.
On the track there was a decent turn out of cars and a highly decorated field including, 2 World champions, 3 British Championship, 2 Scottish Champions and 4 Irish Champions, which I think is quite an impressive gathering.
In the Juniors there was an opening heat win for Bradley McKinstry, Ethan Dilly went on to take the wins in the second heat and the final in a black cross heavy few races.
In the Lightning Rods there was also a heat and final double for Vince Litter who took heat two and the final after Nigel Jackson had won the opener.
The trend of double winners continued in the 2 Litres where Gary Wilson took the opening heat and the final with Stuart Cochrane the winner in heat two. Allen Cherry and Kris Fitzpatrick made their debuts in the class.
The ProStocks were slightly down on numbers but seen Ryan Abernethy, Billy Finnegan and Chris Hamill debut new cars, the ProStocks go through cars so often I normally don’t notice new ones, so apologies if I missed the odd one. Adam McCready took the opening heat win with heat two and the final going to Conor McElmeel.
Boosted by cars from Ballymena and Tipperary the Stock Rods had one of their best turnouts of the season and one of their best meetings to watch. Thomas Morrison took the win in heat one with Raymond Harper winning heat two. Harper crossed the line first in the final but was docked for contact with Victor McAfee earlier in the race (a loose wheel off the latter’s car gave myself and Jonny a nervous moment as it headed our direction), the docking gave the win to Stephen McNiece.
Next up Speedweekend!
Approx Car Turnout: 97 cars (9 Junior Productions, 28 ProStocks, 22 2.0 Hot Rods, 19 Stock Rods, 19 Lightning Rods)
