Beggs bags King of Aghadowey |
After an up and down start to the season for Gary Beggs which probably had more downs than ups, he lifted the King of Aghadowey title on Friday night.
The first Friday evening meeting at Aghadowey since it’s re-opening seen a damp, drizzling evening and just about everyone I spoke to seemed to get stuck behind someone crawling up the road from Randalstown. I found it’s not just as handy as the trip to Ballymena after work, it’s not just as easy to overtake as the road to Tullyroan and all of them are a much duller journey than the roads out to Nutts Corner. The rush to get out also meant I only brought about half of what I needed to bring.
On track the meeting got off to a punctual start and for most of the evening the racing flowed and everything ran smoothly. Gary Beggs won the Lightning Rod King of Aghadowey after heat wins from Gordy McKee and Winston Wier. Ryan Fleming won the ProStocks final, Steven Elder took a heat and final double in the Thunder Rods, Adam Hylands won the 2 litre final and Matthew Nicholl just about fended off Adam McFall to win the Ninja Kart final. The Ninja Karts must have been running about 6 or 7 karts wide at times throughout the evening and it was a credit to the youngsters that there was only one stoppage required throughout the evening, when four of them clattered into the turn one wall.
