Bolton Claims Banger Irish at Season Finale |
Steven Bolton claimed the National Banger Irish title with possibly the luckiest title winning drive ever at Tullyroan Oval on Saturday 1st of November.
I had a feeling it was going to be one of those nights as the rain got heavier and heavier on my drive to Tullyroan on Saturday afternoon, I was pretty much soaked through before the meeting started and had a busting sore head at the start of the meeting.
The open races took place in miserable conditions and having got this far through the season without ruining any camera equipment I decided it wasn’t worth the risk in the wet, then a few races in I changed my mind and decided there was some great shots to be had of the cars splashing through the surface water.
Despite the conditions there was a good crowd and a great buzz about Tullyroan, the bangers were in town and had brought a decent turn out of cars and put on one of the better meetings of the year. Half the field was wiped out in the first bend of the Irish Championship with Stevo McGrath putting an early end to pole sitter Steven Reynolds night’s racing. Steven Bolton went on to have a drive that seen him take on back markers, be half spun and bounce off another car to straighten up and he was pushed around most of the last lap and crossed the line sideways to take a memorable win.
The Robins went into the night with JayJay McConaghie and Ian Bolton tied on points, but when JayJay didn’t make it out the gate before it was hut in the second heat the points battle was over. Bolton went on to take the meeting final and the points title.
After the Irish showdown the previous week the ProStocks were a bit short on car numbers but Jazz Moore was a welcome addition to the field. Raymond Harper took the final win.
The 2 Litres struggled quite a bit in the wet conditions. Allen Cherry took a heat and final double to round out their season.
