Assassins Retain Team Title at Tullyroan |
On a day when the weather offered up everything from Sunshine to snow, the Assassins “A” team took the 2L National Bangers Irish Teams Championship at Tullyroan.
In recent years the Team banger meeting has become one of the top Bangers meetings of the year, one of the few meetings that produce full fields of cars.
Although it’s been closed season, I’ve be working away on racing bits and pieces pretty much since the last one ended, and you start to wonder why you bother and if you’re mad, so the winter meetings bring a much needed injection of enthusiasm.
The Bangers were the star attraction on the billing and didn’t disappoint. Three hard hitting and action packed heats were followed by a meeting final which was won by Steven Reynolds. By the time it came to the Destruction Derby it was down to a battle between the Assassins and the Superteam and it was fitting that the last two running were Reynolds of the Superteam and Mark Hughes of the Assassins. Unfortunately a car that had already been deemed out of the DD got going and intervened in the head to head battle, although Hughes and Reynolds largely sorted the ordeal out between them. Hughes took the win giving the Assassins the victory.
The Ninja karts were down on numbers with just 10 cars on track. Callum Magill took the opening heat and Aaron Ward took heat two and the final.
In the Lightning Rods there was an opening heat win for David Hearst who ended up in the wall early on in heat two and out of the rest of the meeting. Gary Beggs won the second heat before Nigel Jackson won the final on a very greasy track.
The Superstox also had a few drivers missing, but still had numbers in the high teens. Jordan Robinson made his debut in the class, Denver Grattan debuted a new home built car and Kyle Beattie raced for the second time in the weekend having been at Lochgelly on Saturday night.
Gregg Hyndman just pipped Beattie to the opening heat win before Beattie took the second heat and the final.
On a sort of racing related point, I'd like to congratulate to Darren Black and Emma Hammond on their engagement.
