English Visitors Dominate at Shamwreck |
It’s become a bit of a trend in oval racing, our rods go to Ipswich and dominate the English bangers come to Shamwreck and dominate, it’s normally the bears, but on this occasion it was Tom Waller who took a heat win and the feature race at Shamwreck 2015.
Normally Shamwreck is one of those meetings that is all I’m focused on for weeks running up to it, but it comes on the back of a busy Easter weekend this year, I’m was doing my car & trailer test on Friday morning (which I passed) and I made my racing debut in Autograss on Saturday (I might write more about that at some point, but I’m cautious of starting another thread of reports and pics when I don’t have time to do the ones I’m currently doing). On the run up to the weekend Shamwreck was further down the priority list than usual.
The morning started with what is becoming a traditional walk round the pits checking out the “tin” and trying to kill a few hours between needing to be there and racing starting, and the what also seems to be becoming tradition of looking up at the clouds and hoping for a dry one.
The National Bangers started off a little tame, there was a few big hits in the heats but only one real train at the end of heat 2 and it was right in front of us for once. The Shamwreck feature race had a few big hits and a few restarts to get it going before Tom Waller led home Keiran McIvor and Joe Barrett.
The All comes was much more lively and the DD got off to a lively start before getting to the point that 2 cars were just about moving and it started to drag on a little to get a winner out of them.
In the support race Jordan Robinson took a heat and final double in the Superstox, quite a feat in only his third meeting in the class.
Gareth Halliday won the Juniors final in only his first meeting, Graham Meek also impressed in his first meeting up from Ninja Karts and fellow ex-Ninja Karter Adam Weir debuted one of the nicest new cars to have come out this season, a very tidy little Nova.
Dan Shannon won the ProStock final following 2 heat wins by Stephen McCready. The Agnew/ Haugh battle in the class continued to keep the eyes on the star men as they clashed coming through the field.
