Trip to Scotland with the European Hylander
It’s strange only being a few weeks into the domestic season and already we’ve the first trip away for a speed weekend of the season. For me last years European weekend missed the Superstox and the National Saloons which had been there the previous year as support, even the Ninja karts where we’d quite a local interest had travelled, as a result I was going to give it a miss in 2015…… and then the Superstox British was announced and I’d the accommodation booked within minutes of the announcement, I think that was late November!

I can have no complaints this year about the meeting line up, we’d local interest in every class and still a good turnout of supers and 1300s after the hot rods had dropped off a bit on Sunday, pretty much every race was a good one.
The Nationals ran 3 heats on the Saturday night to qualify for their European, lots of drivers tripped up at some point in the heats and in the end it was Adam Hylands who’s put his car on pole with 3 consistent decent finishes. In the big race he Hylands led them off but was soon under pressure from Rob McDonald, who went the inside at one stage and looked to have made it and then spent several laps on the outside of Hylands, this backed the pair up into Jason Kew who was running third who was judged to have barged his way past McDonald using quite a bit of the infield of the kerb, this sent McDonald down the order and have Hylands the gap he needed to go on and take the win. Kew was second across the line, but docked twice for the incident with McDonald and an earlier one with Dave Casey in the opening laps, this moved Andrew Murray up to second and Stewart Doak to third to complete an NI top 3. On top of the NHR title, Hylands is still the reigning 2 Litre European Champion, I can’t imagine too many drivers have held the same title in 2 classes at the same time.
Day two seen NI cars win all three National races with Glenn Bell winning heat one, Hylands took the reverse grid heat two and Bell just held off McDonald to win the final, the Scottish Open and Malcolm Chesher memorial.

In Superstox Kyle Beattie drew outside front row in the British and briefly led it in the early stages, he’d dropped down the order a bit but was running well up when he pulled off during a stoppage. World Champion Steven Jackson took the British title.
On the Sunday Jack Gilpin drew one better than Kyle Beattie in the Scottish open when he ended up on pole for the championship. Barry Stephen ended up victorious in a heavy hitting race.

The 2 Litres raced from grades on Saturday night and our cars didn’t make a lot of progress from the back, I think Francis Rafferty may have got a 2nd in a heat and a 4th in the final.
On the Sunday Mark Madill won heat one, Derek McMillan won heat two and they would have filled the front row for the final except Madill’s car had blown the head gasket which ruled him out, the gap left Kerr Patterson a run up the inside and he walked the final. Shane Murray had got up to second before being spun out by Robbie Burgoyne who took the flag second and was docked giving second to Adam Hylands.

Curtis Greer and Ivan Elliott were out in the 1300s, both seemed to have the speed and got stuck in, but both finished their weekends stuck in the fence after taking big hits, in separate races.
