First wet one of the year at Aghadowey |
Aghadowey had got off to a nice dry start to the season, but eventually it was inevitable there would be a wet meeting. While recent years there has been a run of tracks getting wet or dry meetings, the wet weather seems to be following the National Hot Rods around, I think I’m right in saying this was their third wet meeting on the trot.
Friday night is normally football night for me but another event in the leisure centre meant that wasn’t the case this week and I could be on my travels up the road. Friday nights at Aghadowey are also a bit of a chaotic rush to get in, get a bite to eat and get up the road for start time, thankfully there is less Friday nights up there this season than there was last year.
At the end of a tough week for oval racing in which the oval racing community has come together to remember Keir Millar, all bar a few of the drivers had their bumpers painted gold as a mark of respect and the meeting began with a gathering of drivers, cars and officials on track for a moments silence.
There was decent racing throughout the evening, the Ninja Karts had a few good races with Sam McNiece winning both heats before Aaron Ward took the win in the final. Young Aaron was also making and selling keyrings with the proceeds going to the Millar family, a great gesture.
In the Nationals Adam Hylands won heat one, Adam Maxwell was first across the line in heat two but docked for a jump start which promoted Keith Martin to the win, Maxwell went on to take the final with no such disputes on the result.
The low graders ruled the roost in the stock rods with Ed Davis taking the opening heat and holding off the advances of Micky McFall to take the final, while the other heat win went to Rodney Fleck.
The Thunder Rods had a heat and final double for Andrew McLean, Glenn White won the other heat.
