Local Sweep in F2 Irish Trip |
I may have missed the action on days one and two of the F2 NI Trip, but rest assured I was staying in touch with what was going on. I know in this day and age everyone pretty much knows what happened on social media as it happens, but incase you missed it, Graham Fegan won the Challenge Trophy on Friday night at Ballymena and Ryan McCrory won the Irish Open on Saturday night at Nutts Corner.
With the two big titles decided and staying with the local racers it was the Nutts Corner Jubilee cup first up on Sunday and it was Chris Kincaid who kept up the local winning streak by taking that one.
Ryan McCrory took the second race of the day which was the third qualifying heat in a system I wasn’t too familiar with for the George Fegan Tyres Cup which was to be the final race for the F2’s.
McCrory looked to be adding that to his weekend’s total but Kelvyn Marshall caught him in the closing stages and spun him at the roundabout end and got caught up with him in the process, this handed the lead and the win to Craig McConnell.
The F2’s were superb as ever and it was nice to stand and watch a meeting with my hands mostly in my pockets also since I didn’t bother with the last few races I was sitting down to my dinner for 5.45.
In the Stock Rods Steven McKane won the British Championship on Friday night, Gareth Bevan won the Irish open on Saturday and John McAlister won the Irish Masters on Sunday.
I should also add that although heritage racing isn’t my cup of tea and I think you have to remember the cars of that age to appreciate it and heritage racing hasn’t reached the era I recall yet, it was very watchable and great to see the cars over and Billy Finnegan’s out on track.
