Bell Retains Leslie Dallas Memorial |
Glenn Bell retained the Leslie Dallas memorial trophy in the National Hot Rods at Tullyroan on Sunday for the second day of their speedweekend. Other class wins went to Dan Shannon winning the ProStocks Irish Masters, Jay Clyde won the Ninja Karts Golden Helmet, Richard Stewart and Shane Murray won the Tullyroan Challenge Cup for the Lightning Rods and 2.0 Hot Rods respectively.
Following a night of heavy damage in the Nationals at Aghadowey on the Saturday the numbers were well down for the Tullyroan meeting on the Sunday, around a dozen cars raced. I’m sure there is a lot of head scratching going on from other people as to how this happened and I don’t need to dwell on it too much, but I’d suspect it was a combination of damage done on Saturday night, the relatively low entry the weekend started with, form also suggests that NHR numbers are always well down for non qualifying or non championship meetings and it could even have been the meeting became a victim of the new world qualifying rounds and the close proximity to the next NI qualifying round meaning drivers didn’t have a lot of time to fix cars again for friday night and dearnt miss a qualifying round.
Adam Maxwell and Glenn Bell shared the heat wins. Glenn Bell took a lights to flag win in the final where he was chased all the way by Dave Casey, in the closing laps the pair had closed right up on the battle for third place which included most of the rest of the field. Even though the numbers weren’t great the racing was good enough.
Another positive in the National Hot Rods was the return of Ben Mckee in the Nationals, I think the first time he’s been back out since his back smash at Ballymena at Easter.
The ProStocks fared slightly better in numbers from their British Championship the previous night. Dan Shannon took an opening heat win in one of the races of the day after a long scrap with Steven Haugh, Stefan McClelland and Tam Melrose joined the party in the closing laps.
Heat two seen Conor McElmeel take the flag for the second time in the weekend. Shannon took the win in the Irish Masters leading home Stuart Agnew and Stephen McCready.
The Lightning Rods put out a good showing of numbers and it was Richard Stewart who took the win in the final after a race long scrap with Winston Wier.
Shane Murray continued to put together a run of form with his second feature race of the weekend in the 2.0 Hot Rods leading home Stephen Emerson in the final. A footnote on the 2 Litres was the return of former World Champion Andy Best who was out in JD’s Corsa.
The opening Ninja Karts heat stayed green from flag to flag and seen a heat win for Lily Gallagher. Heat two was a win for Jay Clyde who went on to take the win in the final, leading home Sam McNeice and Lily Gallagher.
