[see the full article] Added: 19 Apr 2014 Category: 2014 Oval Racing Good Friday for Derek Martin Ahead of the meeting at Ballymena that would be the traditional start to the season, it occurred to me what had been missing from the meeting a few weeks ago when our season kicked off, and it turns out it wasn’t Easter eggs, but in fact the increased anticipation when you’re seeing results come in from the afternoon meetings on the mainland. It makes you a little envious when you’ve just got out of work and you’re seeing facebook and twitter updates and photos from people who have been enjoying an afternoon in the sun watching racing, and you’re thinking “it’s nearly our turn”. The local oval racing season seems to kick off and go through the gears very quickly, one week there is no racing and before you know it there’ll be 3 meetings a week to choose from, it’s all a bit of a baptism of fire.
