Welcome to NIF2.com, providing insight into stock car racing in Northern Ireland from behind the lens. We aim to feature as much as we can from Tullyroan Oval, Ballymena Raceway and as well as bits and pieces from our travels and a look back at days gone.

2012 - #41 - Tullyroan Oval - 6/10/12 |
The first of 3 straight Saturday nights at Tullyroan to see out the local 2012 season, before the “out of season” meetings which aren’t as “out of season” as they once were.
I got down early to film some NIOvalTV stuff with Shane Murray for the 2 Litre’s and wondered around the pits for a bit chatting, it often amazes me how many people I know at the racing, but stuck out on infields and up scaffolding it’s rare I speak to anymore than half a dozen people at a nights racing. Maybe I should arrive early more often, although simply arriving on time has been a break through since last season.

2012 - #40 - Ballymena Raceway - 5/10/12 |
The last meeting of the year at Ballymena and thankfully another dry one. The stock rod Irish championship seemed quite low on car numbers given the amount of cars that have raced this season, and a big crash on the home straight further cut the field and wiped out some of the main contenders, including new World champion Chris Gordon. In the end Stephen McNeice took the win with Micky McFall second and Derek McMillan third, as they finished. McFall was later excluded from the result as the car failed scrutineering.

2012 - #39 – Tullyroan Oval – 30/9/12 |
The second meeting in as many days, and another big banger day at Tullyroan as the unlimited’s rocked into town for their Nutshaker meeting.
It was what could best be described as an interesting day of trying to balance filming and video before eventually deciding the easiest thing to do was take photos on the Video camera, which worked up until the point I forgot I was videoing and started panning around looking for photos to take.

2012 - #38 – Ballymena Raceway – 29/9/12 |
There was a time that the last Friday in September seen the end of the F2 season and the end of my season, except perhaps a trip to the superbowl (while boat prices were reasonable) and you normally stood there going through the motions, foundered and not that disappointed to be honest. Up until Saturday while we haven’t had a great summer, we didn’t have too many wet meetings either for the most part of it and it has still been quite mild. This meeting all felt a bit end of season, a small crowd, and nothing special on the race programme and I’m not really sure why there wasn’t an F2 stadium championship this season.

2012 - #36 - Tullyroan Oval - 16/9/12 |
This for me was one of the meetings I singled as one to really look forward to when I first saw the fixture list at the start of the season. The ProStock championships have become one of the jewels in the crown of local oval racing, ‘matches and dispatches’ has never failed to disappoint, while the F2’s are still the class I most look forward to seeing, throw in the Juniors and the Lightning Rods and it all made for a cracking meeting.

2012 - #35 – Ballymena Raceway – 14/9/12 |
On paper this looked like an excellent meeting, certainly one of the meetings when I read down the fixture list at the start of the season and had marked down as one I’d like to get to. With the sharing out of classes this season the F2’s and Nationals don’t seem to have been at the same meeting at Ballymena too many times, the Gp 2 Irish is normally a good race too.

2012 - #34 - Tullyroan Oval - 2/9/12 |
Another weekend, and another 2 days of racing, and this time back to Tullyroan for the second leg of the National Hot Rod weekend. For a while it seemed like quite a long time since I’d been anywhere but Tullyroan and up until today it seemed like quite a long time since I’d been to Tullyroan.
