| 2013 - #26 – Tullyroan Oval – 23/6/13 |
The second part of the big banger weekend and a change of scenery in the supporting classes with the turn of the Superstox, 2 Litres, Ninja Karts and ProStocks taking the stage.
Possibly due to a lack of sleep I had got in my head it was a one o’clock start (I’m in speedweekend mode already) and not 2 o’clock, which led to me arriving at Tullyroan much earlier than I’d anticipated.
A lively practice session seen a few bumps, scraps, spins and slaps off the wall and perhaps reduced the turnout by one or two cars in the process.

Another weekend and another 2 meetings, given the 4 meetings last weekend and the choice of Ballymena or Aghadowey on Friday night to make four this weekend, it almost seemed lazy to only be doing the 2 meetings, but I’m starting to tire of the hours spent sorting photos and reports and 2 meetings is more than enough in one weekend.

The second meeting of the weekend for me and a clashing one with the F2's being on at Nutts Corner. Thankfully we didn't encounter an F2 going the other way on the trip to Tullyroan or instinct might have kicked in and I'd have ended up at Nutts Corner, having some sort of meltdown as to why I was there and why I still wasn't going in.

My big local F2 meeting of the season, not falling at an ideal time for me when I could just about see due to an eye infection, given the weather perhaps it wasn't a bad thing I was stuck in the stand, I'd likely not have had the sense to come in out of the rain otherwise and I'd now be telling you why my camera no longer works.

As I often point out, quite often everyone will have a different opinion on a Stockcar meeting based on their individual experience of the meeting. In this instance, an eye infection I'd been nursing all week and I thought was just hay fever, turned out to be much more serious and ruined my evening,

Hard to believe it’s the start of June already, although at least the weather looked a bit more like it was the start of June anyway. June is a frantic month for oval racing fans in Northern Ireland, I think I counted a total of 15 meetings in June with a few clashing ones.

Sometimes when I go to write my blog pieces after the racing I find I have to pause and think about how it will be interpreted by the reader. As I’ve often said your opinion, or anyone’s opinion on a Stockcar meeting or any other form of entertainment for that matter is very much a personal experience, on the wettest most miserable of nights someone is going to have the result of their lives and on a sunny night with packed grids and fantastic racing someone else is going to be miserable that the car broke down in practice. Therefore when I’ve “one of those meetings” I need to remember when I write a piece on the racing, to try and report on the racing and the positives, and on the nights the racing is poor we’ll still try and find some positives from that too, less time editing photos or something.

Being a photographer at our local tracks creates an element of commitment to being “there” when there is racing on. Being “there” prevents me from being anywhere else and somewhat restricts travelling to the weekends that there is no racing at home, and so a few days away in York and a trip to Stoke was planned..... but it didn’t work out like that.
