Welcome to NIF2.com, providing insight into stock car racing in Northern Ireland from behind the lens. We aim to feature as much as we can from Tullyroan Oval, Ballymena Raceway and as well as bits and pieces from our travels and a look back at days gone.

Shamwreck 2006-2011 |
As we approach what should be the last National Banger meeting at Nuttscorner Oval and certainly the last Shamwreck at Nuttscorner Oval, I thought I'd do a piece to reflect on the Shamwrecks that have gone before.

2012 - #10 - Nuttscorner Oval - 14/4/12 |
Hard to believe it’s only the middle of April and I’m already notching up my tenth meeting of the year. Looking back at 2011 it was the 8th of May before I’d taken in 10 meetings. With every meeting this season there seems to be more and more work today after it, and as I once again look at a list of things to do on front of me and out the window at what looks like another nice day I’m missing out on, I hope you can forgive me if I perhaps I’m not just as enthused as I have been in recent years to attempt to attend 50 meetings in a single year.

2012 - #9 – Nuttscorner Oval – 9/4/12 |
It may only have been Easter Monday but it seemed as though every other track had been racing for quite some time and Nuttscorner Oval would be the last to kick their season off, and perhaps the best was saved to last.
If the Tullyroan facility is to be open for the start of May as it is expected then this meeting was the first of only four more meetings that Davy McCall’s promotion will hold at Nuttscorner Oval.

2012 - #7 - Ballymena Raceway - 6/4/12 |
Having spent many years as a fan fairly out in the cold to what was going on, who had new cars and what was happening in the Sport, Good Friday used to end the anticipation of who might have built new cars, who’d a tidy new paint job and what would lie ahead for the season. All that added to getting off work or school back in the day, built up what was a fairly hyped meeting for the start of the domestic season. I can’t but feel I miss that, and in fact I probably contribute to the loss of that experience to other people. The coming of the internet has insured we all know which visiting drivers to expect, the popularity of social networking now provides us with a drip feed of who has done what with cars throughout the closed season and pictures of newly signwritten cars can often be found online long before they can be found at a track. There is also the pretty big change that 3 of the 4 promotions in Northern Ireland have already kicked off their season before Easter, and I think last season all 4 had. Even taking all that into account, this was Good Friday, this is where the season traditionally begins in many of our heads if nowhere else and anything which went before was just competitive practice.

2012 - #6 - Aghadowey Stadium - 31/3/12 |
The plan for the weekend was to go to Ballymena Raceway on Friday night and then probably Kirkistown for the race meeting on Saturday, they fitting in with various web work and graphics that still need to be finished off, and should have been weeks ago. As plans go it all seemed very simple, play indoor football from 6 to 7 then head to Ballymena late and I should be there about 7.40, probably somewhere in the middle of the first set of heats. In reality, no one was on after us at indoor and that went on to 7.20, we got tanked and I wasn’t in great form, I phoned ahead and heard there wasn’t a great turnout of F2’s and NHRs (not surprising since Nutts Corner is on today) and I decided to opt for my local chippy and feet up on front of the tele, and that set the tone for one of those “can’t be bothered weekends”. I thought about going to Kirkistown but didn’t bother, and so that meant I’d be able to head up to Aghadowey with Team Beggs since the Lightning Rods were on and he’d room for one more.

2012 Season Preview |
As the new season approaches, it’s time to take a look over the forthcoming fixtures and see what the local season has to offer in 2012.
We enter 2012 in exciting times, Tullyroan Oval is due to open in May, and looks like being a fantastic Oval Racing complex, although you wouldn’t tell it by looking at their promotional material, Nutts Corner Raceway is now partnered with Spedeworth, and there should be more inter promotion activity with National Hot Rods racing under the Nutts Corner Raceway promotion for the first time, many of the classes getting a run out at Aghadowey including the Saloons, some Aghadowey classes going to race at Ballymena and the one I’ve been looking forward to which is the F2’s coming to race at Tullyroan Oval. The Slick Cars and Aghadowey’s open Hot Rods have become one and will run a series across Tullyroan, Aghadowey and Ballymena and the 1300 Stock Cars have been introduced to Nutts Corner Raceway, who’ve also brought in Super 1600’s.

Ultimate Car Show - 25/3/12 |
I think this is now the third or fourth year I've gone to this event, it has become something of a warm up for the season, only a few pound in which goes to charity and Bevan Motorsport are always there with something, so there is always oval racing machinery on display.
