Fireworks bring the Aghadowey season to a close |
A late addition to the fixture list seen another Friday night trip to Aghadowey for the Gala night.
For once it was a miserable weather for the drive up to Aghadowey and the weather changed for the better as the evening went on, but there was a point at Randalstown where I was thinking, plums to this I’m going home again, I’d got to Kilrea last week before thinking it wasn’t for me so perhaps if the season was a few weeks longer I’d be having that thought before getting in the car.

Oval Racing's a Family Affair at Tullyroan |
OK, I’ve run out of headlines for wins for Flemings or Grattans taking wins this season, but when I thought a bit harder about it nearly every race at Tullyroan was won by someone who has another racer in the family, Matthew Nicholl kicked it off in the Ninja Karts opening heat, Stewart Hanna won heat two, Billy Finnegan took 2 heats in the Superstox which were later taken off him when he was excluded from the meeting, Denver Grattan won the final, Cameron Dynes, Ian Riordan and Graham Fegan won the Junior Productions, Dean Fleming and Nikki McClelland took the honours in the ProStocks and in the 2 Litres it was Shane Murray, Allen Cherry and Mervyn Emerson who took the three wins.

McCurdy take Hat Trick as Bell takes Title |
I’ll start by setting the scene for this report, I’ve an awful lot still to do before going to Tullyroan and I don’t have enough time to do it in. I could write this piece after the racing, during some of tonight’s races or tomorrow, but I’ll have enough to do then too.
So….. going into this meeting I had expectation in my head that it would all be about the National Hot Rods and Thunder Rods, everytime I see a pic of a Junior at the minute it’s for sale and the only time I see a lot of the DMC 1300s is when I’m flicking through photos from earlier in the year. I’d say I was pleased to say I was right, but I’d rather have been wrong and had something to watch between the Nationals and the Thunder Rods. I do hope the Juniors pick up for next season and I do hope some sense prevails on the 1300s and they can either race at both promotions and reach their potential.
